I'm just wondering, is there something similar for Windows Media Player 12 as I use it to watch movies/music videos and it'd be nice to at least get emulated 5.1 surround sound. In my case On-board Realtek sound driver itself automatically splits the mp3 audio into 5.1 automatically even whatever media player i use .So i request you to try update your sound driver software to latest version or OS upgrade.Because while using XP the same sound driver produces the 5.1(i heard the the all frequencies of sound in all speakers ), but After OS Upgrade Vista/Windows 7 the updated sound driver works greatI can feel the difference in rear speakers and sub-woofer channels. Just to let you guys know.
The problems actually lie with Windows 7 HDMI and it's built in connection reading through EDID. All of the problems I have read about on the net all come back to EDID which is implemented as a form of Out;ut Protection. Music is likely only stereo (2.1). There might be an option to upmix the stereo content to 5.1 in your control panel settings somewhere, depending on the drivers for the audio chip/card in your system. So yeah, answer slugbait's questions and you'll get better answers. Go to control panel, then hardware and sound, then sound.
Right click on speakers in the new box that comes up and configure it for 5.1. Or do the test to see if all are working. If you are using separate codecs, you will have to configure it too. Example, video codec AC3filter uses a separate configuration tool. Hello,Thank you all. As indicated in my initial post the surround sound works with hardware and sound as well as Skyrim.I researched further and found that everyone is having the issue. The older versions of Windows Media (ver 11 for XP) would outpht a stereo sound and fill the back speakers of surround sound. In Windows 7, Windows Media no longer does this.
Realtek may in fact have a "feature" module at their site to add so that this can happen again. Thanks again,Ralph Click to expand.Windows Media Player never did this. The upmixing/faking is done on the part of the audio chip.Make sure you actually have the correct drivers installed.
Realtek's option is called "speaker fill". Make sure you have that selected through either the sound control panel or realtek's manager.https://www.image-share.com/upload/242/60.png Agreed with Goober. Mo info: https://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/.definition-sound-and-music-from-your-computerThis whole time I thought you were complaining about not getting surround sound to work, but it's obvious now that you weren't using a surround sound source. Thank you all. What I never realized is that Windows Media Player 11 in Windows/XP was doing windowss feature or perhaps it was the way the options were set for realtek in Windows/XP.I will go back and look.Next I need to go look for the Realtek sound manager and put it back into Windows 7 Pro SP1.I am slowing building up my Windows 7 environment while I continue to use my Windows/XP system for now.Thank you,Ralph I sometimes like to hear the room filled with music too, even on a 2.1 recording.
If Skyrim is giving you true surround sound (ambient sounds on the surround speakers and the action happening on the fronts) you indeed have your 5.1 discreet channels.
Now lets make the audiophiles cringe. On your realtek control panel, if you have "connector retasking" as a feature on your audio chip, you should be able to right click the colored back panel 3.5 mm icons on the right.Retask the one set for "side speaker out" as "front speaker out"Your sound chip will now mirror all sounds going to your front speakers to your rears/surrounds.Don't forget to set it back when playing games or you'll be losing the benefits of having 5 channels.Hope this helps.
(I have an ALC889A, my friend who has a newer version doesn't have the connector retasking option, just a heads up) Btw, outpput a response p,ayer 'speaker fill', I don't have it since my chip supports Dolby ProLogic II but on my friend's pc (like Eindows mentioned) it absolutely sucks. It tries to take a stereo recording and upmix it to 5.1 so that the vocals come through the center channel and ambient instruments come through the surrounds, which sounds awesome on DLPII but sounds terrible using Realtek's algorithm.
Leave it turned off. Even the "matrix" plug-in for winamp does a better job.OP, if you can click the little "i" at the bottom of the Realtek Audio Manager and look at the audio chip you have (it will be listed next to 'Audio Codec'), you can look up a chart that lays out all the special features of your sound 'card'.Cheers. Thank you everyone.I haven't gotten to this task yet. However, all this input will help tremendously.I now have my Windows 7 Pro 64bit running as my primary system.I switched over my critical tasks from XP such as mail feeds, etc.I can see that the 64 bit is more responsive than the old 32 bit XP.I am also medis delivery of a SSD, which will really make the system very responsive; no more latency delays loading up apps and using system functions, etc., etc.,Now back to getting my sons PC an older XP system updated.
I am moving my former graphics card into his system, which will allow him to enjoy his new Christmas present Railworks 3.Thanks again,Ralph **Sorry about the length, I tend to be playsr descriptive**So I just set up my new computer but I cannot get programs to play audio in 5.1 surround sound, or even 5.1 fill for that matter. I have an ASUS Z87-A motherboard running the latest Realtek HD Audio Manager (6.0.1.7023) and I am trying to play sound through a new set of Logitech z506 5.1 surround sound speaker system.
I have all settings in the Realtek audio manager, Wjndows system settings (I'm using Windows 7 64-bit Professional), iTunes (11.1.4.62), and Windows media center set to 5.1 surround sound (where possible) and the windpws optimal settings determined by Realtek (24Bits, 48 kHz) but neither WMC nor iTunes will play audio through the center or rear speakers (kind of).I have done the speaker test in Realtek and Windows system settings and all the speakers + bass played the sound at full volume and clarity as expected, but when ever I try and play a song through WMC or iTunes, it mainly gets played through the front left/right and bass.
I can hear the songs being faintly played ouutput the ohtput speakers (at about a 1/10 of normal level in terms of volume, maybe even quieter, but it also has a significant amount of static noise that over powers the faint melody of the song). In the new Realtek manager I don't see an option anywhere for speaker fill which I hope will fix the problem if I can find it (because obviously speaker fill is all I'm looking for with playing music through the 5.1) but I have searched through every menu to no avail.I have messed around with every option that seems like it might produce some sort of different output that I could then work toward fixing the problem from but nothing seems to change the way that songs play through the speakers.
I have even tried the "Swap Center / Subwoofer Output" but that does nothing to change either speaker's output. I can get the rear speakers to work in full if I swap the stereo/rear jacks but then the front speakers don't work and I can't do anything to get the middle speaker to work outside the tests.
I had the same problems with my last mobo (ASUS M4A79XTD) but I passed it off as just a failure from the old hardware but everything in this computer is brand new, like packages received over the last 4 days and set up this morning new. I've looked at the BIOS settings and there doesn't appear to be anything out of the ordinary there. music is stereo only sound so playing through the front speakers only and subwoofer is normal.the only way to get stereo sound out of your rears would be as you said to set the speakers to fill. there IS a setting for it but what its called and where you find it varies by windows os.you would need to change it back to what it was before when you are done though or then 5.1 surround wont work right.if you played a movie right now 5.1 would probably work fine. I knew about the speaker fill option but I cannot find it anywhere.
All of my options under Speakers>Properties>Enhancements are:"EnvironmentVoice CancellationPitch ShiftEqualizerSwap Center /Subwoofer SpeakerLoudness EqualizationBass ManagmentRoom CorrectionDTS Connect"Is it renamed like you said and is one of the above options? Ask ! how about in your soundcard/onboard sound drivers/software. is there an option?in one of those two places (sound properties or soundcard software) there should be an option for it if the speakers are set up as 5.1sorry but i dont use computer speakers on my system anymore so i cant exactly give you a step by step like i would prefer. i have everything routed to a receiver and my home theater system so i do not get the same options as you do.you dont have this either?edit:and just to be clear how are you hooked up?via the three 3.5mm cables to the rear correct?

had full use of all speakers in xp and vista anyone found a fix or a workround? I had the same issue with my 5.1 system in Windows 7. Only 2 speakers would work when using Media Player or playing games. It worked fine in XP. When testing the individual speakers, they worked fine. What I did to fix this was go into the 'Manage Audio Devices'. My default device was '2 High Definition Audio Windoqs, just a bog standard one on the Motherboard. I entered the properties of that device and went to the 'Enhancements' tab.
Outpug was an option there called 'Speaker Fill'. The description of which was "Speaker Fill creates a virtual environment for playback of stereo audio sources on surround speaker systems" Selecting that option fixed the issue for me.
It doesn't sound brilliant in all applications, but it's a good step forward. Guys, try this. In REALTEK audio, assign the back speakers to front speakers. In windows control panel, click sound, right click speakers, configure.
Choose Stereo. Now go play a movie or an mp3. It should be coming through all of your speakers. I had it set up 5.1, but having movies only coming through the center speaker and mp3s only coming front up front annoyed me too much. Now I have 5 speakers all playing the same thing at once, which is what I want. The loss is that if you play a game that has 5.1, you winrows really getting it. Hey, thought I'd do one of my rare posts.
Enabling the "Speaker Fill" enhancement as mentioned in a previous wnidows is the correct way to handle this. Right click audio icon in task bar (or open from control panel) -> playback devices -> speakers -> Properties -> Enhancements -> Enable Speaker Fill.
This outpt Windows scale up jedia stereo/quad/etc. sound sources (such as the stereo encoded Plager and Movies your playing) to whatever your speaker setup is.
This means all the speakers are used and you also get true 5.1/7.1 surround sound if available from the source.
Doing it the other way, where you set the output in Windows to ALWAYS be outputt, requires your speaker hardware to do the upscaling in order to use all the satellite speakers and means no proper surround sound EVER. My old Creative set up has a switch on the back of the sub to do this. but this method is just not as good as the "Speaker Fill" option! Once the burnin perod (48hrs), with no failures I blew the installed windows 7, and proceeded toinstall a clean copy, using the technet image with SP1 included. i have taken 2 weeks to get to trying my multimedia system only to find that even though all settings and tests in windows 7 says it is in 5.1, you can hear each speaker during the test, but as soon as media player, media center, a game starts to play, the rear and center, and subwoofer wkndows are being combined into the Front speakers only, No sound comes from the other 3 channels.
I have spent 2 days trying different fixes and suggestions, none have fixed or changed the problem. So, I am asking for some help here, whatelse can cause this in windows 7 x64 ULTThanks in Advance, system data belowSystem: AMDMotherboard:Asus Crosshair V FormulaCPU: AMD FX8350 4.0gigMemory:Mushkin Enhanced Redline 32GB DDR3 1866BootDrive: OCZ Agility 3 SSDGame and Data Drive: WD 500Gig Black SATA IIIGraphics Card: MSI R7870Sound Card: Creative X-fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty ProCreative X-fi Xtreme GamingProduct name: SB X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty ProDescription: SB X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty ProCreative Product ID: 01 11 04 winddows 00 00 00 D7Driver version: 2.
